What to expect

Your appointment

1

Brief on-arrival screening (3 min)

A trained clinical staff member confirms your suitability based on your online questionnaire and discusses your beauty/hair concerns.

2

Intramuscular injection (under 1 min)

A quick injection into the upper arm or buttock. Note: biotin IM injections can feel slightly more uncomfortable than other shots — a stinging or pressure sensation that lasts a few seconds.

3

Brief recovery (5 min)

A short observation period to ensure no immediate reactions, then you're free to leave.

Pre-treatment blood test — may be required

For a single trial injection, no blood test is needed. For ongoing hair-loss or beauty concerns, we recommend testing Vitamin Profile, Iron Status and Thyroid Profile — many beauty concerns have an underlying cause that biotin alone won't address.

Frequently Asked

Biotin / Beauty Treatment (IM) — FAQs

How long until I see results?
Hair, skin and nails grow slowly — visible results typically take 6–12 weeks of regular treatment. Most patients notice nail strength first (4–6 weeks), then skin texture (6–8 weeks), then hair changes (12+ weeks).
Why does the biotin injection feel uncomfortable?
Biotin IM injections are known to feel more uncomfortable than most other IM shots — a stinging or pressure sensation during administration. This is well-documented and not a cause for concern. We use the smallest needle possible and inject slowly to minimise discomfort.
Where is the injection given?
Either the upper arm (deltoid muscle) or the upper outer buttock (gluteal). You can choose based on preference — many patients prefer the buttock for biotin specifically as it can feel slightly less uncomfortable there.
How often should I have this injection?
For best results, weekly or every 2 weeks for the first 8–12 weeks, then maintenance every 4–6 weeks. We'll agree a schedule based on your concerns and response.
Can biotin treat alopecia or significant hair loss?
Biotin supports overall hair health but is not a treatment for medical hair loss conditions like alopecia areata or androgenic alopecia. If you have significant hair loss, please consider blood testing first (Vitamin Profile, Iron, Thyroid) to identify any underlying cause.
Should I have blood tests first?
If you're experiencing significant hair, skin or nail changes, we strongly recommend blood testing. Many beauty concerns have an underlying cause that biotin alone won't address. Testing helps target the right combination of treatments.
Can I take oral biotin supplements alongside this injection?
Yes, oral biotin supplements can complement the IM protocol. However, important: biotin (oral or IM) can interfere with several laboratory tests — including thyroid function tests. If you're due to have blood tests, stop biotin at least 48–72 hours beforehand and let your lab know.
Will biotin affect my blood test results?
Yes — high-dose biotin can falsely affect thyroid function tests, troponin tests (heart attack diagnosis) and some hormone tests. Always tell any healthcare provider about biotin use before blood testing. Stop biotin 48–72 hours before non-urgent tests.
Hair/Skin/Nails IV or just the Biotin injection — which is better?
Hair, Skin & Nails IV provides a comprehensive blend (B12, B-Complex, minerals) plus a biotin IM. The standalone Biotin injection delivers biotin only at a higher frequency. The IV is better for first-time beauty IV patients; the standalone shot suits ongoing maintenance.
Are there any side effects?
Most patients have only mild discomfort at the injection site, lasting 24 hours. Biotin itself is well tolerated. The main consideration is laboratory test interference — discussed above.
Is it safe if I'm pregnant?
Biotin during pregnancy is generally considered safe, but we recommend discussing with your antenatal team before booking. Please note pregnancy on your suitability form.
Where is the clinic?
44 Crawford Street, London W1H 1JS — a short walk from Marylebone and Edgware Road stations. All injections are administered at our clinic.
