Frequently Asked

Detox / Antioxidant Support IV — FAQs

Why do I need a G6PD test before this drip?
G6PD (Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase) deficiency is a genetic condition that affects red blood cells. People with G6PD deficiency can have serious haemolytic reactions to high doses of Vitamin C. G6PD deficiency affects ~4% of the UK population — testing is non-negotiable before high-dose Vitamin C therapy.
How long does the G6PD test take?
The G6PD test is a single blood draw at our clinic. Results typically return within 24–48 hours. You'll need to wait for results before booking your Detox IV — but the test only needs to be done once (results don't change over time).
What if I'm G6PD deficient?
If your G6PD test is positive (deficient), we cannot offer high-dose Vitamin C protocols including this Detox IV and the Vitamin C High-Dose treatment. Alternative IVs without high-dose Vitamin C remain available — we'll discuss suitable alternatives.
How quickly will I feel the effects?
Most patients feel an immediate sense of refreshment after the drip. Antioxidant benefits build over the following days as cellular processes are supported. Some patients report skin radiance changes within a week, especially with regular sessions.
How often can I have this drip?
For ongoing wellness, every 4 weeks is typical. For specific concerns (chronic inflammation, post-illness recovery), your clinician may recommend 3 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart. We'll agree a schedule on the day.
What's the difference between this and Vitamin C High-Dose Treatment?
Vitamin C High-Dose is purely 10 g Vitamin C in saline. Detox / Antioxidant adds glutathione 1200 mg and thioctic acid 300 mg for broader antioxidant support and liver-focused detox. Both require G6PD testing.
Are there any side effects?
Most patients tolerate this drip well. Some may experience transient warmth, mild flushing or a brief metallic taste during the glutathione push. The infusion is slow (~60 minutes) to minimise any discomfort. Serious reactions are rare in G6PD-tested patients.
Can I have this drip if I'm taking medication?
High-dose antioxidants can interact with some chemotherapy and blood-thinning medications. Please list all medications on your suitability form — our clinical team will review and may defer treatment if needed.
Is it safe if I'm pregnant?
We do not recommend high-dose Vitamin C or glutathione IV therapy during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, please note this on the suitability form.
Where is the clinic?
