Diabetes Health
HbA1c, fasting glucose, insulin and C-peptide — your average blood sugar over recent months, plus how hard your body is working to keep it under control.
Everything you need to know about Diabetes Health
Type 2 diabetes usually develops slowly, and many people have raised blood sugar for years before it is picked up. HbA1c shows your average blood sugar over the past two to three months and is the main test used in the UK to identify diabetes and prediabetes; a fasting glucose adds a snapshot of the moment.
Insulin and C-peptide show the other side of the story: how much insulin your pancreas is producing to keep your blood sugar where it is. High levels with normal blood sugar can point to insulin resistance — often the earliest stage — while low levels can be a sign that the pancreas is struggling. Our clinical team explains your results and, if they suggest prediabetes or diabetes, the next steps with your GP.
