About this test

Everything you need to know about STI Blood Test

HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and syphilis can all be passed on through blood or sex, and all can go unnoticed for a long time while still affecting your health and being passed to partners. Each is treatable, and early diagnosis makes a real difference — modern HIV treatment, for example, gives a normal life expectancy and stops the virus being passed on.

This kit tests for HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies and p24 antigen, hepatitis B surface antigen, hepatitis C antibodies and syphilis antibodies. It does not test for chlamydia, gonorrhoea or other infections that need a urine or swab sample. Results are confidential and explained by our clinical team, and if anything is reactive we help you get the confirmatory testing and care you need.

Who it's for

Worth considering if

  • A new partner, or more than one partner since your last test
  • A condom that split or was not used
  • A routine check as part of looking after your sexual health
  • Ever sharing needles or tattoo or piercing equipment, or having a blood transfusion abroad
Important: A home test is not a diagnosis on its own. Where something needs looking at, we tell you what it means and what to do next. If you are unwell now, please see your GP or call 111 rather than waiting for a kit.

Frequently Asked

STI Blood Test — FAQs

When should I test?
Each infection takes time to show in a blood test. HIV can be picked up by this type of test from about 4 weeks after a risk, and a negative result at 45 days is considered conclusive. Syphilis and hepatitis B can take up to 12 weeks, and hepatitis C antibodies 3 months or occasionally longer. If you test earlier, plan to repeat the test once these periods have passed.
I had a risk in the last 72 hours — what should I do?
Contact a sexual health clinic or A&E straight away and ask about PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), medication that can prevent HIV if it is started within 72 hours. Do not wait for a test result.
Does this test for chlamydia and gonorrhoea?
No. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are detected from a urine sample or swab, not blood. If you have symptoms such as discharge, pain passing urine or sores, please visit a sexual health clinic.
What happens if a result is reactive?
A reactive result needs confirming with a further test before it is a diagnosis. Our clinician contacts you to explain it and helps you arrange confirmatory testing and treatment, usually through an NHS sexual health clinic.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Your results are released only to your secure account, and we do not share them with your GP or anyone else without your consent.
How does the kit reach me?
We post it to your address anywhere in the UK as soon as your order is paid, and email you when it has been dispatched. Delivery is free on every home blood test kit. Everything you need to collect your sample and send it back is in the box.
How do I collect the sample?
Your kit contains everything you need and step-by-step instructions. Read them through first, collect at the time of day this test needs (see the preparation note above), label the sample and pack it in the return packaging provided.
When should I post my sample back?
On the day you collect it, Monday to Thursday, and not the day before a bank holiday — so it reaches the laboratory quickly and does not sit in the post over a weekend. A sample that arrives too old may not be able to be analysed.
Can I order several kits at once?
Yes. Use “Add to order” on each kit and then “Order” in the bar at the bottom — they go into one order and one payment and are posted together. Clinic blood tests are booked separately, because they need an appointment rather than an address.
How do I pay?
Home kit orders are paid by bank transfer. When you place your order we show our bank details and your payment reference on screen and by email, and we post your kit as soon as the payment reaches us.
How do I get my results?
Once the laboratory has analysed your sample, your results are released to your secure account with a written explanation from our clinical team, and a call where something needs talking through. Turnaround depends on the test and starts when the laboratory receives your sample.
