Men’s Tumour Marker Panel
Five tumour markers — AFP, beta-hCG, CA 19-9, CEA and NSE — to support clinical assessment and monitoring. Results cannot diagnose or rule out cancer on their own.
Everything you need to know about Men’s Tumour Marker Panel
Tumour markers are substances that some cancers release into the blood. Doctors use them mainly to help track treatment and watch for recurrence in people already diagnosed, and alongside symptoms and scans as part of an assessment. This panel includes markers associated with testicular and other germ-cell cancers (AFP and beta-hCG), pancreatic and digestive cancers (CA 19-9 and CEA) and some neuroendocrine cancers (NSE).
They are not a reliable way to screen healthy men for cancer: harmless conditions such as smoking, liver disease, pancreatitis and gut inflammation can raise them, and many cancers do not raise them at all, especially early on. The panel does not include PSA, the prostate marker. If you have symptoms that worry you, please see your GP rather than waiting for a test.
