About this test

Everything you need to know about Male Hormone

Low energy, low mood, reduced libido, difficulty building muscle, poor sleep and weight gain around the middle can all be linked to testosterone — or to something else entirely. A single testosterone number rarely settles it, which is why this profile measures the whole system.

Total and free testosterone show how much hormone you have and how much is actually available to your cells; SHBG and albumin explain the gap between the two. LH and FSH show whether the signal from the pituitary is normal, which distinguishes a testicular cause from a pituitary one. Oestradiol and prolactin complete the picture, since both can suppress testosterone or cause similar symptoms. Results are explained by our clinical team, including when a GP or specialist review is warranted.

What's included

8 markers in this test

Albumin Free Testosterone Luteinising Hormone Oestradiol Prolactin Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) Testosterone Follicle Stimulating Hormone
Testosterone & Free TestosteroneThe total level and the fraction not bound to proteins — the part your body can use.
Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) & AlbuminThe carrier proteins; high SHBG can leave total testosterone looking normal while free levels are low.
Luteinising Hormone & Follicle Stimulating HormonePituitary signals to the testes; they show where in the system any problem sits.
Oestradiol & ProlactinBoth can lower testosterone or mimic its symptoms when raised.
Who it's for

Worth considering if

  • Low energy, low libido, erectile difficulties or low mood
  • Difficulty building or keeping muscle despite training
  • Checking testosterone before or during a weight-loss programme
  • Monitoring levels on testosterone therapy between prescriber reviews
Important: A blood test is not a diagnosis on its own. Where something needs looking at, we tell you what it means and what to do next. If you are unwell now, please see your GP or call 111 rather than waiting for a test.

Frequently Asked

Male Hormone — FAQs

Why a morning appointment?
Testosterone follows a daily rhythm and peaks in the morning. Guidelines recommend measuring between roughly 7am and 11am, ideally fasted, so that results are comparable with the reference ranges. Book an early slot if you can.
My testosterone was “normal” before but I still have symptoms — can this help?
Often, yes. Total testosterone can sit in range while free testosterone is low because of high SHBG, or the pituitary hormones may point to a different cause. This profile is designed to catch those patterns.
What if my testosterone is low?
A single low result should be confirmed with a repeat morning sample before any decisions are made — that is standard practice. Our clinician explains your result and the sensible next steps with your GP or a specialist.
I am on testosterone therapy — can I use this to monitor it?
Yes. Tell us what you take and when your last dose was, as timing affects the reading. Your prescriber should still oversee your treatment.
Where is the test done?
44 Crawford Street, London W1H 1JS — a short walk from Marylebone and Edgware Road stations. Your sample is taken at the clinic by our clinical team; you do not need to bring anything.
How long does the appointment take?
About 15 minutes. If you have booked several tests they are all done in the same visit.
Can I book several tests at once?
Yes. Use “Add to booking” on each test and then “Book” in the bar at the bottom — they go into one appointment and one payment. Home test kits are ordered separately, because they are posted to you.
How do I pay, and can I cancel?
Pay online when you book — by card or bank transfer — or at the clinic where that option is offered. You can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your appointment for a full refund.
How do I get my results?
Results are released to your secure account and explained by our clinical team in a written summary, with a call where something needs talking through. Turnaround depends on the test: routine blood panels are quicker than genetic or DNA analysis, and we tell you what to expect at your appointment.
