About this test

Everything you need to know about STI Blood Screen

HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and syphilis can all be present for months or years without symptoms, and all are far easier to manage when found early. This screen tests for HIV, hepatitis B surface antigen, hepatitis C antibodies and syphilis antibodies from a single blood sample taken at the clinic.

It is the right test if your concern is specifically about blood-borne infections or you want a routine check between fuller screens. If you also want chlamydia and gonorrhoea covered, the STI Complete Screen adds the urine and swab tests.

Who it's for

Worth considering if

  • A routine check for anyone sexually active
  • Before starting a new relationship, or after one ends
  • Possible exposure through unprotected sex, shared needles or a needle-stick injury
  • Reassurance after a previous negative test, once the window period has passed
Important: A blood test is not a diagnosis on its own. Where something needs looking at, we tell you what it means and what to do next. If you are unwell now, please see your GP or call 111 rather than waiting for a test.

Frequently Asked

STI Blood Screen — FAQs

When is the best time to test after possible exposure?
HIV and syphilis tests are most reliable from about four to six weeks after exposure; hepatitis B and C may take longer to show. Testing too early can miss an infection, so tell us the date and we will advise — sometimes a test now and a repeat later is the safest approach.
What does “hepatitis B surface antigen” mean?
It is the marker of a current hepatitis B infection. A negative result means no current infection; it does not tell you whether you are vaccinated or immune, which is a separate test.
Is the test confidential?
Yes. Results go to you alone, via your secure account, and are discussed with you by our clinical team. We only involve your GP or a specialist with your agreement.
What if a result is positive?
Our clinician explains what the result means and arranges confirmatory testing where needed. All four infections are treatable or manageable, and we make sure you know exactly what the next step is.
Where is the test done?
44 Crawford Street, London W1H 1JS — a short walk from Marylebone and Edgware Road stations. Your sample is taken at the clinic by our clinical team; you do not need to bring anything.
How long does the appointment take?
About 15 minutes. If you have booked several tests they are all done in the same visit.
Can I book several tests at once?
Yes. Use “Add to booking” on each test and then “Book” in the bar at the bottom — they go into one appointment and one payment. Home test kits are ordered separately, because they are posted to you.
How do I pay, and can I cancel?
Pay online when you book — by card or bank transfer — or at the clinic where that option is offered. You can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your appointment for a full refund.
How do I get my results?
Results are released to your secure account and explained by our clinical team in a written summary, with a call where something needs talking through. Turnaround depends on the test: routine blood panels are quicker than genetic or DNA analysis, and we tell you what to expect at your appointment.
