Type 1 Diabetes Risk Test
Examines ten genetic markers — including the HLA variants that carry most of the inherited risk — to estimate your predisposition to type 1 diabetes.
Everything you need to know about Type 1 Diabetes Risk Test
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition, and whether the immune system turns on the insulin-producing cells is strongly influenced by inheritance — particularly by variants in the HLA region. This test analyses ten well-studied markers (including rs2187668 and rs7454108 in the HLA region, rs689 near the insulin gene and rs2476601 in PTPN22) and combines them into a genetic risk estimate.
It is a risk test, not a diagnosis: a higher score means type 1 diabetes is more likely than average, not that it will happen, and most people with a higher score never develop it. It is most useful in families where type 1 diabetes is already present, and it can be followed with the Type 1 Diabetes Antibody home kit or the Type 1 Diabetes & Coeliac Detection Panel to check whether an immune process has begun.
