About this test

Everything you need to know about Advanced Testosterone Monitoring

Testosterone does not work alone. LH and FSH are the pituitary gland’s signals to the testes; oestradiol is made from testosterone and needs to stay in balance with it; SHBG decides how much testosterone is free to act. Looking at all of them together shows not just whether testosterone is low, but where in the system the cause lies.

The kit also suits men on testosterone treatment, where oestradiol is routinely checked and LH and FSH show how far the body’s own production has been switched off. It does not include the full blood count (haematocrit) or PSA that are usually monitored on testosterone therapy too, so your prescriber should continue to arrange those. Our clinical team explains your results and how they fit with your symptoms or treatment.

Who it's for

Worth considering if

  • Investigating low energy, low libido or erectile difficulties beyond a single testosterone result
  • On testosterone therapy and checking levels between prescriber reviews
  • Breast tenderness or swelling, which can be linked to oestradiol
  • Planning a family, where LH and FSH matter for sperm production
Important: A home test is not a diagnosis on its own. Where something needs looking at, we tell you what it means and what to do next. If you are unwell now, please see your GP or call 111 rather than waiting for a kit.

Frequently Asked

Advanced Testosterone Monitoring — FAQs

When should I collect if I am on testosterone treatment?
It depends on your treatment. For injections, many prescribers want a sample just before the next dose (a “trough” level); for gels, the time since application matters. Follow your prescriber’s advice and tell us what you take and when your last dose was.
Why are LH and FSH included?
They show whether low testosterone is coming from the testes (LH and FSH high) or from the pituitary (LH and FSH low or normal), which changes the next steps. On testosterone treatment they are usually suppressed.
Does this replace my prescriber’s monitoring?
No. Men on testosterone therapy also need regular checks of haematocrit (the concentration of red blood cells) and PSA, which are not in this kit. Keep to your prescriber’s monitoring plan.
What if my testosterone is low?
A single low result should be confirmed with a repeat morning sample before any decisions are made — that is standard practice. Our clinician explains your result and when to see your GP or a specialist to find the cause.
How does the kit reach me?
We post it to your address anywhere in the UK as soon as your order is paid, and email you when it has been dispatched. Delivery is free on every home blood test kit. Everything you need to collect your sample and send it back is in the box.
How do I collect the sample?
Your kit contains everything you need and step-by-step instructions. Read them through first, collect at the time of day this test needs (see the preparation note above), label the sample and pack it in the return packaging provided.
When should I post my sample back?
On the day you collect it, Monday to Thursday, and not the day before a bank holiday — so it reaches the laboratory quickly and does not sit in the post over a weekend. A sample that arrives too old may not be able to be analysed.
Can I order several kits at once?
Yes. Use “Add to order” on each kit and then “Order” in the bar at the bottom — they go into one order and one payment and are posted together. Clinic blood tests are booked separately, because they need an appointment rather than an address.
How do I pay?
Home kit orders are paid by bank transfer. When you place your order we show our bank details and your payment reference on screen and by email, and we post your kit as soon as the payment reaches us.
How do I get my results?
Once the laboratory has analysed your sample, your results are released to your secure account with a written explanation from our clinical team, and a call where something needs talking through. Turnaround depends on the test and starts when the laboratory receives your sample.
